Manager Allegedly Harasses Employee For His Age, Firing Him By Yelling, “Get Your Old Faggot Ass Out Of Here!”

Employee Files Lawsuit against Pitt Stop Airport Valet Parking for Age Discrimination

Michael, a 69-year-old man, started working for Pitt Stop Airport Valet Parking in September 2015. His job required that he drive the shuttle to and from the Pittsburgh International Airport. From the beginning, Michael noticed that his manager and coworker, Joe, were excessively rude towards him, calling him names like “faggot,” “child abuser,” and “old fucking faggot.” Sometimes, they would go so far as to call Michael these names in front of customers.

Since Michael is neither abusive towards children nor homosexual, these comments upset him. Meanwhile, valets younger than Michael never received this type of verbal harassment from the manager or Joe. Michael reports that one day Joe became so angry for no reason, following Michael to his assigned bus and pounding his fist against the side of the bus while screaming, “you old cocksucker!”

Things only worsened when Michael’s shuttle overheated after having been driven for 24-hours on a 90 degree day. Safely pulling the shuttle to the side of the road, Michael called in his problem and was picked up. When his manager returned after driving the shuttle back, he called Michael into his office. Michael shares how his manager berated him, yelling, “Get your old faggot ass out of here! You call yourself an engineer and can’t even drive a fucking bus! Get your fucking stuff and take your old faggot ass out of here!”Michael shares how his manager berated him, yelling, “Get your old faggot ass out of here! You call yourself an engineer and can’t even drive a fucking bus! Get your fucking stuff and take your old faggot ass out of here!”

Michael packed up and left, not wanting to further aggravate his large-statured manager. But, Michael recalls how valet drivers younger than him made irresponsible decisions on the job—like driving a client’s car into a creek and arriving to work under the influence of drugs and alcohol—however, none of them ever faced any discipline. When Michael applied for unemployment compensation, the Pennsylvania UC Department informed him that Pitt Stop had only suspended him. This was news to Michael; he had not heard anything from his manager or employer since his manager ordered him out. Michael believes that this alleged suspension is false and that his termination occurred due to his age. KM&A fights for employees like Michael, who have been discriminated against because of their age.
