Employee Suspects Age Discrimination When Overlooked for a Promotion Five Times

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Employee Files Lawsuit against Bucks County Court House for Age Discrimination

Evangelia started working at Bucks County Court House in March 2006. Soon after, she received two promotions. As a domestic relations support caseworker, Evangelia had many positive performance reviews. But then, in 2015, she noticed that she and other workers over the age of forty were routinely overlooked for open positions. Those positions were given to younger, less experienced, and less qualified individuals.

From 2010 to 2015, Evangelia applied for the position of domestic relations office intern. Although she received 5 interviews for the position, the job continued to go to others who were younger and less experienced. During one of the interviews, Evangelia recalled that the interviewer expressed that applicants must have held “each and every level prior to the position applied for” before receiving the promotion.During one of the interviews, Evangelia recalled that the interviewer expressed that applicants must have held “each and every level prior to the position applied for” before receiving the promotion. She fit those qualifications.

In 2014, then 2015, and then again in 2016, an employee, who was younger, less experienced, and less qualified, was promoted to the domestic relations office intern position. In fact, one individual had never worked at the Bucks County Court House before receiving the position. Evangelia discovered that while she had been told that she’d hear back in a week about the position, all other applicants had been told they would hear back in 2-3 weeks.

When Evangelia received her rejection letter within one week of her interview, she came to the conclusion that the interviewers never viewed her as a viable option for the position due to her age. After all, she had all the experience and qualification, but younger employees continually received the open positions.

As a client of KM&A, Evangelia is fighting the age discrimination that she believes she experienced from Bucks County Court House. No one deserves to deal with age discrimination while on the job. KM&A challenges employers who try to defy the law and discriminate against employees due to their age.
